Happy Birthday Mary

Today, September 8th, the Church celebrates the birthday of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It just happens to fall 9 months after we celebrate Mary’s Immaculate Conception.

The birth of Mary marks yet another important step in God’s loving plan of salvation, which reaches its completion in the person of Jesus Christ. Because Mary’s birthday is so important in salvation history, today we Catholics lovingly honor the one whom “all generations will call blessed” and whom the Church lovingly calls the Theotokos, or God-Bearer.
