ABC to Robinson and Minns: Stay Home

Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams has apparently not invited Gene Robinson or Marty Minns to the 2008 Lambeth Conference. Robinson is credited with causing the current crisis in the Anglican Communion, and Minns is a bishop associated with Nigeria, functioning in the U.S. without approval by the Episcopal church.

So is this Williams’ solution? Just don’t invite a strong conservative and a strong liberal to Lambeth, and both sides will be happy. Judging by reactions to this move, neither side seems too happy.

By the way, Canon Kendall Harmon has a new blog address: Titus One Nine

Also, has anybody else noticed Pontifications is down? Is there a new address?

Interesting. A poser…does this mean Willimas is not recognizing either Bishop-one for obvious reasons and one because the of being made a Bishop outside of the geographical boundry..Nigeria must be wondering…

I think the situation with Minns is based on a decision that Carey made last time around that illicitly (or irregularly) ordained and deployed Bishops aren’t invited.

    LP,

I have heard the explanation that it is because Minns is not diocesan, and from what I understand, only diocesan are invited (not suffragen or missionary).

However, while I did oppose the consecration of Robinson, since he has not been disciplined in anyway, why should he not be invited? To me this is incoherence, and the ABC is going to fail to please anybody by trying to please everybody.

David - that may well be the case with Minns. I tried to find the citation that suggested it was based on Carey’s prior decisions, but can’t seem to put my finger on it now.

As far as not inviting VGR, I don’t really see how he can do that. Like it or not, he is a Bishop of TEC. As you rightly say, this is incoherence.

As a former Anglican, I am just saddened by everything that has happened and is happening in the
Anglican Communion. Thank God He led me back to the Catholic Church!

Pontifications has moved to a new site. Please pass the word. Thanks.
