Episcopal Minister Anne Redding Suspended

As mentioned here in this venerable blog, Episcopal Church minister Anne Redding had declared herself a practicing Muslim.

This is a tad more than Episcopal Church bishop Geralyn Wolf could handle, so she has suspended Redding for one year. See here.

Don’t fear for Redding’s bread & butter though, The Jesuits (as Jimmy Akin put it) are like the “little girl with the little curl, right in the middle of her forhead.”… They will be taking her in as an asst. prof at one of their universities…

An Anglican ‘ordinand’ is the equivalent of what RCs call a seminarian; Dr Redding has been an Episcopal minister for about 20 years.

Bishop Wolfe was extremely kind but still did the right thing. I read much good about her. She is liberal but deserves respect (and she respects conservatives), and as she is a convert from Judaism she takes her Christianity seriously – in a way a perfect person to deal with Dr Redding’s games.

As Dr Redding is an apostate, excommunication would have been appropriate too.

As for her teaching at a Jesuit school, it depends. The point of a university is to debate every point in the catechism. Still, her apparent ignorance and/or intellectual dishonesty should give them pause.

Long story short she is a real Sunni Muslim but Islam is ‘congregationalist’ like the Baptists or Jews. Her mosque practises a very Westernised liberal (feminist!) version of their faith. What she was trying to do, straddling Christianity and Islam, makes no sense in either faith and to their credit most Episcopal liberals didn’t try and defend the indefensible.

I was going with the term as a synonym for clergy… I edited for clarity.

Another thing: Geralyn Wolf’s last name has no e on the end.

Any minister who apostasises to Islam, even wifty Westernised Islam like in this case, obviously shouldn’t be in the ministry… let alone somebody who’d been one for 20 years and converts after hearing an interfaith guest speaker at her church (the cathedral where she was staff no less).

Either that Muslim speaker was a Demosthenes or there’s something wrong (put black phrasing on that word) with Ann Redding.
