December 16: Blessed Phillip Siphong Onphitak (1907-1940) & Holy Prophet Haggai & Happy Valentine’s Day!

Blessed Phillip Siphong Onphitak – one of the 7 Martyrs of Thailand beatified by Ven. Pope John Paul II in 1989. A married man with five children, he was a teacher in the parish school and catechist. In 1940, the King of Siam – becoming worried the foreign religion was becoming too strong, ordered the army to itimidate Chrisitans. Blessed Phillip refused to abandon the Faith. He was taken outside the village and shot.

On the Byzantine calendar the minor Prophet Haggai is commemorated. Because even minor prophets deserve much love.

Also the Roman martyrology notes the martyrdom of Valentine. No records extent. If you forgot a card or flowers, don’t worry. Chances are she didn’t know about it either.
