Pictures, Pictures, Get Your Pictures

H/T: Pictures, Pictures, Get Your Pictures

The following are public domain, and may be used freely to pepper up some blog posts, bulletins, or whichever.

Illustrations from St. Nicholas magazine (public domain)

More vintage children’s book illustrations.

Illustrations from old Bible story books, courtesy of La Vista Church of Christ.

Also in the public domain.
Old book covers.

Coloring pages of famous artists’ pictures, including Cezanne, Picasso, Monet and others.

Dear readers, should you have some additional links to rich public domain resources, please do share them in the combox. A Simple Sinner has been saving up and allocating resources and building credit to finance a multi-head embroidery machine. Honestly, some of these illustrations would scan well to make gorgeous vestments or details for vestments. Please share what resources you are aware of, one day they may adorn chasubles, if all goes well!

I just found your blog (thanks to David Bennett and his excellent amazon.com reviews), and thought that you might want to know about an event taking place in and near Denver over the next couple of months:
    “From Durer to Rembrandt”

    From http://mytown.dailycamera.com/index.cfm/news/entry/alias/from_durer_to_rembrandt_the_renaiss_18:

“This is like being in the print room of the Louvre or the Metropolitan or the National Gallery.” – Timothy Standring, Curator, Painting & Sculpture, Denver Art Museum.

“The Renaissance of Faith in Art is the most significant exhibit of Old Master biblical prints ever hosted in the Rocky Mountain region.” — Shawn Merriman, owner of the collection.

When I designed the covers for some of Dave Armstrong’s books, I used the free stock photography from http://www.sxc.hu/ . You have to register, but there is great stuff, especially for bulletins and printing where one will need high resolutions (300+ dpi).

Good post. What scared me, though, is how many of the books in the “old book covers” one were books I read when I was a child. I feel old now. Maybe I’ll take a nap.

That doesn’t make you old, that just means as a child you had old books!
