Yes, Virginia, There Really Are Still Antipopes

piusxiii.jpg

Lest anyone think that antipopes are a thing of the past*, I give you Pius XIII. He is pictured here standing in front of his version of the Vatican…

Here’s hoping he goes the way of Saint Hippolytus… that is to say he becomes reconciled to the Church, not that he dies a horrible martyr’s death!

*Well, actually they kind of are… An antipope by definition, makes effort to suppress the legitimate Pope and is a cause of confusion… At this time, I don’t think many are all that confused, or that P13 is managing to much suppress B16…

We should all pray that Pius XIII is reconciled to the Church. Having read the man’s story there is much to sympathize with. He is not bad, just confused and disillusioned by all that has happened. May he find peace in the bosom of the True Church established by Christ.

My goodness. I had no idea such people were around, but I suppose of there’s a SSPX, there’d be antipopes…

    Irenaeus,

You think this is weird? This is nothing. You should see Pope Michael I

(Yes, his mother did make his vestments)

Or how about His Holiness, Pope and Emperor, Gregory XVII

If anybody needs prayers, it’s these yahoos.

Lest he be blamed for any of my shortcomings, Fr. J did not post this… I am not sure why he is listed as the author…

    Rob,

Not to confuse things but Gregory XVII was (yes, he is dead) pope by mystical vision. The other two (ie Michael I and Pius XIII) are conclavists. And Michael cannot wear vestments as he is not ordained!!! (There was talk of an Old-Catholic bishop possibly ordaining him a couple of years ago!) Although his papal throne is located in his mum’s front-room! :D

Although SSPX is in all their pasts, it is not the motivating factor. See Lefebvre’s legacy

Pope Mikey is my favorite of the brood… His parents own a Pizza parlor so it is garunteed that after papal audience one can get a hot slice. I also suspect his mother would whip up a batch of choc-chip cookies upon papal command.

  8. Bob Catholic Says:

I have heard, and I might be wrong, that the choc-chip cookies have the papal code of arms on them. I wonder, SS, what the pizza parlor is called: Vatican Pizzas? Pope-r-us? DIY Papacy? Also, I wonder if they have a Papal Special on the menu at the pizza parlor??

  9. Bob Catholic Says:

    Rob,

I only look at the conclavists as the mystical claimants are a lot harder to judge.

BTW: and there is irrelevant trivia for you, Gregory XVII (aka Clemente Domínguez y Gómez) was consecrated by Archbishop Thuc who was originally a supporter. Thuc later denounced the group, the Palmarian Catholic Church but it was way too late! I wonder if Bishop Clarence Kelly’s dislike of the Thuc-line is connected to Thuc’s part in these consecrations?

If Pope Michael I did serve a Supreme Pontiff pizza, would it have

    pontifical pepperoni?
    infallible anchovies?
    martyrology mushrooms?
    Sanctified sausages?

  11. Bob Catholic Says:

Does Pope Michael I help in the shop? That would be bizarre - ordering from His Holiness!!!

Okay, what about Papal Hut? LOL

Someone want to do a Photoshop of the logo?
