Gays plan to dump ashes on Pope during US Visit

According to Pink News:

The Rainbow Sash Movement said it is calling on “Catholics of good will” to take the Papal visit as an opportunity to shower the Pope mobile with ashes instead of confetti.

“Ashes are an ancient and appropriate greeting for a sinner who has caused the Church so much division and pain,” RSM said in a statement.

“We will also be greeting him with whistles; these were used by the Polish People to show shame for the violation of human rights by the Communist Government prior to the end of the cold war.

“This will be a loud call for reform, that the Pope will be unable to turn a deaf ear to.”

In my opinion, “Culture War” is an understatement. Anti-Catholicism is a bigotry as much as antisemitism and racism.

Couldn’t that be constituted as assault on a priest and thus automatic excommunication? *sigh*

If I witnessed it I think it would be construed as grounds for automatic punch in the face…

Still working on that “becmoning a saint” thing – old habits die hard.

I am not a saint yet either, so in my initial reaction, I gotta say, Simple’s theory has a lot of merit. I think if this were, let’s say, a Christian group doing this to a gay group (e.g. throwing ashes instead of confetti at a pride parade as a sign for those involved to repent) the words “hate crime” and “bigot” would be thrown around.

Personally, I wouldn’t condone Christians throwing ashes at a gay pride parade, and I would hope that the average gay or lesbian is embarrassed by this. The way in which we witness to our message is often nearly as important as our message. I don’t think this will help win over Catholics to embrace things like gay “marriage.”

Anti-Catholicism is not new. It’s been around as long as there has been Catholicism.

    Anti-Catholicism BY CATHOLICS is.

Instead of a punch in the face, I would probably pull off an Ouchi Gari (Judo throw). It would be a little bit less violent, but it would still get the job done. :)

A simple headlock would work as well. : =)
