Thank You, Cardinal Egan!

Cardinal Egan

Thank you, Cardinal Egan for standing up to the Truth, for being faithful to your God-given ministry as pastor and teacher of the Holy Catholic Church!!! Please do not stop! My prayers and those of thousands of people are with you. God bless you.

The Catholic Church clearly teaches that abortion is a grave offense against the will of God. Throughout my years as Archbishop of New York, I have repeated this teaching in sermons, articles, addresses, and interviews without hesitation or compromise of any kind. Thus it was that I had an understanding with Mr. Rudolph Giuliani, when I became Archbishop of New York and he was serving as Mayor of New York, that he was not to receive the Eucharist because of his well-known support of abortion. I deeply regret that Mr. Giuliani received the Eucharist during the Papal visit here in New York, and I will be seeking a meeting with him to insist that he abide by our understanding.

Mr. Rudolph Giuliani, are you aware of what Holy Scripture affirms about partaking in an unworthy manner?

Whoever, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of profaning the body and blood of the Lord. Let a man examine himself, and so eat of the bread and drink of the cup. For any one who eats and drinks without discerning the body eats and drinks judgment upon himself. (1 Corinthians 11: 27-29)

Holy mackerel.. ignoring even a Cardinal? What is WRONG with people? Even the smallest and newest Catholics know they can always go up and receive a blessing from the priest or EMHC instead of profaning the Lord’s Body.

If one is in grave sin and stubbornly refuses to believe it even when told point blank, then it can only be one thing that makes that Catholic receive the Body and Blood of Christ knowingly unworthily:

    Pride.

I can only look out for my own, but we more than any other nation have a problem with pride–that very thing that sent the Lightbearer and another third of the angels plummeting.

Cardinal Egan insults women and children everywhere by saying nothing about the objective ineligibility of a man who has run out on his wife and family, divorced and “re-married” and only spoke as to some theorethical legislative position of a person who current neither holds nor is seeking public office. The Catholic Church is sometimes accused of being ant-woman. We now have hard evidence at least one of its princes could give a damn about women.

I don’t know exactly why Cardinal Egan did not mention Giuliani’s apparent irregular marital status as another reason why he (Giuliani) shouldn’t have partaken of the Holy Mysteries. But to say that Cardinal Egan doesn’t “give a damn about women” seems a bit imprudent, in my opinion.

I don’t think that Cardinal Egan’s silence on the matter is sufficient evidence to prove that he doesn’t “give a damn about women”.

it doesn’t prove it. It give strong evidence to it.

God forbid if some cardinal made a public statement about MY particular sins! I think Cardinal Egan was differentiating between Giuliani’s public and private life. We may all know about Giluliani’s marital situation (due to the gossip mags and newspapers), but honestly, me living in Virginia, is it any of my business? Of course not. Should it be addressed? Yes, but not with a press release!

His public support of abortion is another matter; however, Katherine, I do see your point about the fact that he doesn’t currently hold office (nor is he seeking one), but it was only a couple of months ago he was running for President with support for abortion a part of his platform.

  6. Nan Says:

He’s too well known to let it slide, especially since there’s no guarantee he’ll never run for office again.

Katherine, Giuliani had an annulment from the first wife, who was his second cousin rather than third; apparently that makes a difference to the church.

jaybird, I can’t give Giuliani a pass for being privately chastised for his personal life; his second wife found out he was leaving her after he announced it in a press conference. His previous affairs were also publicly known.
