Americans Are Now Buying Smaller Cars
…because of high gas prices. Are Americans starting to think a little smarter?
Well, I guess doing something beats constantly complaining about high prices and doing nothing about it, which has seemed to be the trend among American drivers for too long. I like my 32 mpg car quite well, even if it doesn’t give me the “status” that a Hummer would give me, but I’d prefer the extra $$ in my pocket at the end of the month to any so-called status.
[Let it be known, that growing up and living now in a rural area, I know that some folks need big vehicles for agriculture and transportation.]

David, do you remember that there was gas rationing in the 70’s? Where I live it was based on license plates, which at the time must all have ended in numbers; even could fill up on one day, odd the next. That was the era of gas caps that locked so people didn’t siphon off the gas. People started buying smaller, more fuel-efficient cars, but like everything else, it was cyclical. Once there was no longer a gas shortage, the cycle shifted to bigger and less fuel-efficient vehicles.
Have you noticed any difference on the road as far as SUV’s? I’m still always surrounded by SUV’s, minivans and pickups when I drive, though the other day on the bus I noticed that there were a few more actual cars on the road, though they weren’t compacts.
