No Soup…Er…Zoning for You!

Laura Von Harten, an official of Beaufort County in South Carolina, has refused to grant a rezoning request to a local Catholic parish. Why? Von Harten is a Unitarian and apparently won’t permit a church to rezone that wouldn’t also ordain her. Oh, and the Catholic Church also tries to tell Van Harten how to use her uterus, so that makes two reasons why it won’t be getting its rezoning approval this year, at least as far as Von Harten is concerned. So much for love, inclusion, and a little sense.

Ms. Von Harten did issue an apology, so better sense has prevailed:

“I truly intended my remarks on human rights to pertain to the Catholic Church as a political entity, with a seat at the United Nations, but I acknowledge that I offended individuals in my own community,” she wrote.

“In no way did I intend to infringe on anyone’s freedom of religion. In no way did I intend to disparage any individual member of the Church. I respect the rights of all people to worship in the church of their choosing. Given the history of persecution endured by members of the Catholic Church, I regret my insensitivity on this matter.”

This is the just the tip of the ice berg of calling what the Catholic Church teaches “hate speech”. It’s going to be a tough four years ahead.

    Friends,
You know, maybe it’s time Catholics start bringing hate-speech lawsuits against anyone who spaeaks against the Church. Give the bastards a taste of their own nastiness.
