Seattle Archdiocese Welcomes Married Priest

Fr. Tom McMichael, a former Lutheran minister and Catholic convert, is the frist married priest to be ordained in the archdiocese of Seattle.

The article about his journey is worth reading even though the reporter included some totally pointless quotations from dissenters about priestly celibacy. Still, Fr. McMichael’s story is a great witness to God’s grace. I think of the story of Abraham and the near sacrifice of his son Isaac: he was willing to give up his vocation, yet God affirmed it anyway.

Congratulations to him and his family!

I attend the parish where Father Tom is assigned (Assumption Church in Bellingham, WA). He is an incredibly nice man and a real witness for Our Lord. In fact, all our clergy at Assumption Church are outstanding – our pastor, Father Scott and our deacon, Larry. If anyone is travelling this way, DO visit us. Our church building is absolutely gorgeous, our Masses celebrated well, the music superb. Shall I go on?
May God bless Father Tom AND HIS FAMILY!!

We got our first in the Archdiocese of Milwaukee over the past year; also a former Lutheran. I’ve not gotten to meet him yet, but am looking forward to doing so.

    Blessings,

Why let all the Episcopalians have all the limelight?Let the Lutherans lead the charge back to Rome–especially when the shoes of the fisherman are filled by a German — somehow, I think there is poetic truth here.

Ah, but Benedict is a Bavarian, a richly-textured Catholic culture. Lutherans would stumble over, what is the expression in Latin, something about faith only — a large impediment for Lutherans, but for Episcopalians — chances are they have not given too much thought to it. And as for Anglo-Catholics — some of their priests have long hung onto an underground rumor about Jesus and the beloved disciple. Even as the Episcopal Church is shouting out loud its progressive attitudes on human sexuality, things seem to be falling apart, especially this new Anglican Church in North America, which is, by the way, the same name chosen by Episcopalians leaving the church in the wake of women’s ordination in the seventies. They quickly became two or three different entities.
