About a month ago I attended the Parish Leadership/Evangelization Day organized by the Archdiocese of Chicago.
The Archbishop of Chicago, Francis Cardinal George, answered a few questions posed by the attendees. Following, are three of his succinct responses to questions dealing with topics such as understanding the Holy Trinity, Liberation Theology, and immigration reform.

I dont get it! He says “we are not for illegal immigration”, “laws should be respected.” Then he says we need to “tackle” the issue. The Bishops are encouraging these illegals to come in here, and when they are caught, they try to keep them here, or they think it is fine. Americans are losing their jobs. Why should an illegal be hired? Employers should be forced to enquire about the status and if they are not citizens or have the proper cards, they shouldnt hire them. Hire Americans and pay the American worker a real wage. Heres how to “tackle ” it—-1. a double fence and military to stop the illegals from coming in here, 2. emloyer verification devices to check illegal status when they apply, 3. NO amnesty to become citizens, 4. no free health care, education or other freebies from the government. With no free stuff, no jobs, and no encouragement from the church !! they have no reason to come here. IF and I say IF the seasonal workers are needed like to work in the feilds, have a TEMPORARY work permit and return policy after the work is done, enforced. Tell the Bishops to stop coddling criminal behavior that is taking American jobs !!
