Orthodox Archbishop: Obama Compared To Alexander the Great

During the Greek Independence Day celebration at the White House, Greek Orthodox archbishop Demetrios opined that Obama: “following the brilliant example of Alexander the Great…will be able to cut the Gordian knot of these unresolved issues.” He’s been compared to MLK, Jesus, a general messiah, and now Alexander the Great. It seems that Catholics are not the only ones these days taken in by Obama and putting a lot of trust in princes. I don’t want to sound like I’m overly negative about Obama, but what has the guy actually done? Alexander the Great conquered most of his known world by the age of 33. Obama is a one term senator who is less than 3 months into his term. Let’s see what he actually does before we start bestowing all these titles, honors, and comparisons to say nothing of his anti-life measures (cc: Notre Dame).

  1. That was one of my reactions to the ND news: he’s been in office only three months and they’re giving him an honorary doctorate?!

It’s just amazing to me how susceptible we Americans are (including Catholics and Orthodox) to hype and secular messianism. Will we never learn?

Apparently not! At least, not yet!

I was emailing a friend about this. On the very day that the Bishop of South Bend announced his intention to not attend the Notre Dame commencement, an Orthodox Bishop throws this acolade at him.

…It was for this, and other reasons that I eventually crossed the Tiber, and not the Bosphorus.

    PMG,
And, of course, we think you made the right swim. ;)

I have a website with WordPress. And, saw you linked to me. Mine is a blog with my Poetry on it. My Musica is on a Paid Website. Hope you had a nice and blessed Easter Weekend. Today, the Pope gave us and the folks present a “Plenary Indulgence” for his Urbi Et Orbi Speech, and Blessing. It was nice, to see so many Catholics from All Over the World, in Rome for this Blessing. I am so Grateful to God, that I had Catholic Parents who raised me Catholic. They weren’t perfect, and messed up later, but they did give me a good foundation, with which to turn to. Christ is Risen, Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia!

  7. You’ve got 2 be kidding me. Obama is no Alexander the Great. Obama: bailed out he Auto Industry, the Banking Industry, the Abortion Industry, and China owns us now. How are we going 2Pay this Back? With Our Good Looks? President Obama makes “Love 2Us All,” but “Doesn’t Commit To America.” That’s not the stuff of Greatness. He will go down in History as like Nero. Din’t any of U Notice, during Obama’s Inaugeral Address,…He took a “Pot-Shot” at Catholic, “Dogma?” Yep. Obama, stated his hatred for Papal Catholics, from the “Get-Go,” of his Presidency. No one with “those” sentiments, should be allowed to set foot on a Catholic College, let Alone, get a Honorary College Degree. The President of Notre Dame wants Noteriety, and his 15 Minutes, of Fame. “But what will it Profit You, to gain the whole world, yet suffer the loss of his soul?” Christ says to all of us, and most expecially to Fr. Jenkins. What a jerk. He’s “using” other people’s college kid’s Graduation Day, for his own “Political Agendas.” What Lunacy.
