Uganda Wants Death for Gays

Uganda is currently proposing a law to make homosexual behavior punishable by life in prison or the death penalty. It has received some support from American evangelicals, but should, I believe, be firmly rejected.  Although this blog is quite strong in its support of magisterial Catholic sexual teaching and will continue to be, there’s a huge difference between upholding traditional sexual morality and calling violators to repentance and allowing the State kill those who fail. I would say more, but I think John Mark Reynolds at First Things does a much better job.

Lets pray that Uganda will not allow such a thing to pass. May Christ heal gays of their sin, but may He also heal the sick hearts of those who would allow someone to be killed because of that sin.

  2. I think I read that some major African Anglican bishops have endorsed this bill. That is a shame really, and plays into the argument of Anglican liberals that Anglican conservatives endorse killing gays. Perhaps, sadly, there is some truth to that.

Don’t MOST Protestant conservative evangelicals believe in killing gays (and others according to Old Testament laws)? It’s part of what I call Rabid Religion and tends to show it’s ugly head when liberals have gone too far. And believe me, I’ve heard ultra conservative Catholics and Orthodox espouse some pretty out there laws too.

If Uganda has a law then people should obey it. Does it really matter what the punishment should be for breaking a law. The death penalty could be rightly applied to any crime if that is the law’s punishment. Uganda can expect people to follow their laws and remember also what the thief on the cross said to Jesus.
